The legend about the origin of the name is very curious: it is said that the lady of the castle, awaiting the return of her lord from the war, walked along the walls holding her child in her arms and, at the sight of her husband, for the with immense joy she stretched out her arms towards him, inadvertently causing the child to fall into the garden below.
The mother, in desperation, turned to the groom exclaiming: “you are beautiful, but you cost me dearly!” For this reason the castle was called Belcaro.
